How to Name Your New App

Naming an app is a very difficult process. Our name was already decided by our parents. They went through a stressful process to choose a perfect name for you. Your name has followed you through your whole life. The name becomes your identity. Your app name has a similar importance. It will follow your brand forever. Thus, it is important to come up with a good name.

App Store is overcrowded with millions of apps. Most of the apps are free on the App Store. Thus, it is important to create a good first impression. If you have to spend hundreds of hours coding an app, then you must make sure that your efforts don’t go unrewarded due to a bad app name. In this article, we will tell you how to come up with good app names.

1. Reflect Your App Functions

Your app name should describe what your app does. Most successful apps choose a name which reflects their app core features. Anyone can guess that WeChat is a messaging app, that Netflix is a streaming app or that RapidCash is an app for fast lending.

Most users will judge your app by its name. They don’t want to spend their time reading the description. Thus, you must choose a name which describes your app features. This will leave a good impression in the minds of users.

But, make sure that your name is not too complicated. If you are using a complicated name, then you can lose a lot of users. It will be difficult to search for your app in the App Store. If you are using a simple name, then anyone can remember it. It has to be easy to read and easy to remember, like Nobo or Zolo. This will make it easy for your customers to understand your app theme.

2. Don’t Copy

Most people think that adding a trendy prefix to your app name will make it famous. For example, many people add “Insta” or “Angry” with their app name. They think that this will help in attracting new customers.

But, by doing this you are sacrificing your app legitimacy. There are hundreds of apps in the App Store that start with Angry-something. Try to come up with a unique and original name. You need to start a new trend to become successful.

3. Differentiate Your App Name.

There are hundreds of apps available on the App Store that offers similar functions. For example, there are hundreds of Map apps available on the Play Store. There is a high chance that your app will get lost in this crowd.

Thus, you should try to play with words. In 2008 an app named Free Map Israel changed its name to Waze. Now, their app name sounds unique. It provides a vast number of ways to get to a specific location. They have created a separate fan base of their app.

If you are not getting a perfect word for your app, try playing with words. Try to twist a word little bit. But, don’t get too creative in this process. Otherwise, you might end up choosing a tough name for your app. This will make it harder to find your app on the App Store.

4. Keep it Memorable and Short

If you are choosing a long name, then your app is definitely going to fail. Your users will forget the name of your application. Thus, they will never use it. Ideally, you should try to come up with a short name.

All the million-dollar apps have a short and memorable name. You can easily remember app names like Tinder and Skype. If your app name is short, then people will use it in real-life communication. Thus, they will promote your app to other users. You don’t even need to spend any money on advertising.

Conclusion: Keep it Simple Stupid (KISS)

You can use all these tips to come up with a great app name. But, make sure that your app is also good. Nobody wants to click on an amazing sounding app that does nothing. Thus, make sure that your app name represents your app core features.

In 2005 Dr Adrian Bowyer began the RepRap project, an open supply initiative with the goal of manufacturing a self replicating rapid prototyping machine. They designed a 3D printer that might print most of its parts and in 2008 the primary self replication was achieved when RepRap 1.0 "Darwin" made a whole copy of its elements. This appears to be the primary patent describing 3D precision machining printing with rapid prototyping and controlled on-demand manufacturing of patterns. Free software Tinkercad makes it a snap for first-timers to create 3D objects for printing.
